Attentions Turn To Fenway Park.
With The Patriots' defeat, The city of Boston will now turn their eyes towards Fenway and The Boston Red Sox. Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, and Jacoby Ellsbury will all be coming into camp 100% healthy. Combine that with the blockbuster acquisitions of Adrian Gonzalez and Carl Crawford, and you have another Boston sports team that should contend for a title.
Starters will look something like this:
LF. Carl Crawford,
CF. Jacoby Ellsbury
RF. JD Drew
3B. Kevin Youkilis
SS. Marco Scutarro
2B. Dustin Pedroia
1B. Adrian Gonzalez
C. Jason Varitek
DH. David Ortiz
(Mike Cameron, Jed Lowrie, Jared Saltalamacchia expected to be key bench contributors)
The Red Sox also have a very deep unit of starting pitching. With Jon Lester and Clay Bucholtz they have young All-Star talent, and with veteran's Josh Becket, John Lackey, and Tim Wakefield they have reliable veterans. Insert the off and on talents of Daisuke Matsuzaka and you have a very impressive 6 starters.
The major downfall of last years team was the poor pitching in the Bullpen. This year they've added FA closer Bobby Jenks to solidify that middle relief role. They also brought back Hideki Okajima as what most expect to be left handed specialist.
If healthy The Boston Red Sox will win the American League East. Expect big seasons from Adrian Gonzalez in his new home ballpark. I guarantee Carl Crawford's stolen bases will be down while the power will be up. And with Jon Lester contending for the Cy Young, we can all hope that Lackey and Beckett become consistent in their outings.
