Patriots' 1st Round Pick Nate Solder Signs.
The Patriots have locked up rookie tackle Nate Soldier to a 4 year deal. It's unconfirmed whether or not the 4th year is fully guaranteed. The Colorado OL was one of three remaining 1st round picks who had yet to sign their contracts.
With Nate now signed, The Patriots can start working on getting him game ready. The problem is that with the lockout, then the extra time in contract negotiations, Solder has seemingly missed his chance to jump in as a major rookie contributor. I expect Nate Solder to have a good NFL career, but this wasted time he probably won't make his huge step forward until next season.
Solder will now take a role as a backup offensive lineman. Behind veteran Pro-Bowler Matt Light he can take on an apprentice-type role as he works on adding weight and honing his skill.
Solder will wear #77.
UPDATE: According to Jason La Canfora: Solder's deal is 3 years fully guaranteed, 4th year is half guaranteed base salary, and other half due in March roster bonus.
